When viewers buy a ticket to your live stream, the payment needs to be processed securely and quickly. The payment processor you use affects how much you keep, how fast you get paid, and what payment methods viewers can use.
Stripe
Stripe is the most widely used payment processor for online streaming. It supports cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and over 135 currencies. Fees are typically 1.4% + 20p for European cards and 2.9% + 20p for international cards.
Stripe Connect, which allows streaming platforms to route payments directly to your account, is the gold standard for platform integrations. It gives you full visibility and fast payouts.
PayPal
PayPal is familiar to most online buyers, which can increase conversion rates. Fees are comparable to Stripe at around 2.9% + 30p per transaction.
The main downside is that PayPal does not offer the same seamless platform integration as Stripe Connect. Payouts may go through the platform first, adding delay.
What to look for
Choose a processor that supports direct payouts to your account, multi-currency transactions (important if your audience spans countries), and low international card fees. Also check the payout schedule; some processors hold funds for up to 14 days.
The processor your streaming platform uses is usually the most practical choice. Switching processors often means switching platforms.
