Graphics and overlays give your stream a professional look. A simple logo in the corner, a scoreboard, or a lower-third name badge tells viewers this is a produced event, not a casual phone recording. Here is how to add them.
Overlays in OBS Studio
In OBS, add an image source on top of your camera feed. PNG images with transparent backgrounds work best because they overlay cleanly without a white box around them. Position and resize the image using the preview window.
Common overlays include your organisation logo in one corner, a "Live" badge, sponsor logos along the bottom, and event branding. Keep overlays small and unobtrusive. They should enhance the stream, not block the view.
Lower thirds and name badges
A lower third is a graphic strip across the bottom of the screen showing a name, title, or score. In OBS, you can create these using a text source with a coloured background, or use pre-made PNG graphics that you show and hide as needed.
For a cleaner look, use a browser source in OBS pointing to a web-based lower third tool. Several free tools let you design lower thirds that animate in and out smoothly.
Scoreboards
For sports streams, a live scoreboard is one of the most requested features. Some streaming platforms have built-in scoreboard tools. If yours does not, web-based scoreboard apps can generate a browser source URL that you add to OBS.
The simplest approach is a manual scoreboard controlled by a second person via a phone or tablet. They update the score, and the change appears on the stream instantly via the browser source.
