If you use a streaming platform that processes payments, there is a good chance it uses Stripe Connect behind the scenes. Stripe Connect is the infrastructure that lets platforms process payments on your behalf while sending money directly to your bank account.
How it works
Stripe Connect is a product from Stripe, the global payments company. It allows a platform (like a streaming service) to act as a marketplace: viewers pay through the platform, and the money goes to the content provider (you).
When a viewer buys a ticket, Stripe processes the card payment, deducts the Stripe processing fee, deducts the platform share, and deposits the remainder directly into your Stripe account.
Why it is better than platform payouts
Without Stripe Connect, the platform collects all the money and pays you out later, sometimes weekly, sometimes monthly. You have no visibility into individual transactions and you are dependent on the platform to release your funds.
With Stripe Connect, every transaction appears in your own Stripe dashboard in real time. You can see who paid, when, and how much. Your money is in your account, not the platform account.
Setting it up
From your side, setup is simple: click a "Connect Stripe" button on the platform, log into your Stripe account (or create one), and authorise the connection. The platform handles all the technical integration.
You can disconnect at any time without losing your Stripe account or any funds already in it.
