GAA clubs have a natural streaming audience: the diaspora. Emigrants in New York, London, Sydney, and beyond who follow their home club cannot attend matches but will happily pay to watch online. Streaming turns that loyalty into revenue.
The diaspora opportunity
GAA is unique in having a large, passionate, and geographically dispersed supporter base. A county final might have 5,000 people in the ground and another 1,000 watching from abroad. Even at 5 euros per ticket, that is an additional 5,000 euros in revenue.
Time zones matter. Promote the stream to diaspora audiences in their local time. A 3pm Irish throw-in is 10am in New York and 1am in Sydney. Offering a replay captures the Australian audience.
Technical setup
Most GAA grounds have basic or no broadband. A 4G hotspot is the standard approach. Test signal strength at the venue on a non-match day. Position the camera high, ideally from a vantage point behind one goal or at the halfway line.
For county board matches, a two-camera setup with a hardware switcher like the Blackmagic ATEM Mini delivers broadcast-quality results.
Pricing and promotion
Club championship matches typically sell at 5 to 8 euros. County finals and All-Ireland series matches can go higher. Post the stream link in the club WhatsApp group, Facebook page, and on the county board website.
Partner with the county board or provincial council for cross-promotion. Linking from the official fixture list to your stream page drives significant traffic.
