How to Live Stream a Graduation Ceremony

How to stream school and university graduation ceremonies. Covers camera positioning, audio, multi-hour events, and reaching family viewers.

Graduation ceremonies are milestone events that families want to share, regardless of distance. Streaming lets grandparents, relatives overseas, and friends who cannot attend be part of the moment.

Camera positioning

Position the camera with a clear view of the stage where graduates receive their awards. The key moments are the individual walks across the stage, the handshake, and the reaction. Frame the shot to include the full stage width.

If possible, add a second camera focused on the seating area to capture the crowd reactions and the graduates walking up to the stage.

All-day event management

Graduation ceremonies can run for several hours with multiple sessions. Plan for battery changes, camera operator breaks, and holding graphics between sessions.

If there are multiple sessions (morning and afternoon), consider streaming each as a separate event to make the viewing experience more manageable for viewers.

Free or ticketed?

Many schools offer graduation streams free of charge as a goodwill gesture. Others charge a nominal fee of 3 to 5 pounds to cover costs. Either approach is valid; the choice depends on the school culture and budget needs.

If the stream is free, consider adding a voluntary donation option to support the school fund.
