How to Live Stream a School Concert

A practical guide to live streaming school concerts and music performances. Covers audio setup, camera placement, ticketing, and parental promotion.

School concerts have a guaranteed audience: parents and grandparents who cannot fit in the hall. Live streaming lets them watch from home while generating funds for the school. This guide covers the setup from start to finish.

Audio is everything

Concert streaming lives and dies on audio quality. Take a direct feed from the school sound system via an audio interface into your laptop. This gives you clean, balanced audio from the desk rather than a muddy room recording from the camera mic.

If there is no sound system, position a dedicated microphone at the front of the performance area, pointed at the stage. A boundary microphone placed on the stage floor works well in a pinch.

Camera placement

Set up at the back of the hall for a wide shot covering the full stage. A slight elevation, even standing on a chair, improves the view over seated audience heads. Use the zoom to frame the performance area without too much empty space around the edges.

Ticketing and promotion

Price stream tickets at 3 to 5 pounds. Promote through the school newsletter, class WhatsApp groups, and the school website. Send the link home with students.

Grandparents are a major audience segment for school concerts. Make sure the ticket purchase process is simple enough for someone who is not tech-savvy.

Every parent deserves a front-row seat
