How Clubs Can Make Money from Live Streaming

Revenue strategies for sports clubs using live streaming. Covers ticket sales, sponsorship, replays, merchandise, and building a streaming programme.

Live streaming is not just a service for supporters; it is a revenue channel for clubs. When done right, streaming generates income from ticket sales, sponsorship, replays, and merchandise promotion. This guide explains how to build a sustainable streaming programme.

Direct ticket revenue

The simplest revenue stream is selling pay-per-view tickets to each match. A club that streams 15 home matches per season at an average of 150 viewers and 5 pounds per ticket generates 11,250 pounds per season. That is significant income for a grassroots club.

Start with high-profile matches to prove the concept, then expand to regular fixtures once you have an established audience.

Sponsorship revenue

Sponsors pay for visibility. A logo on the stream overlay, a mention by the commentator, and branding on the event page are all sellable assets. Local businesses that already sponsor jerseys or signage at the ground are natural streaming sponsors.

Charge per match or offer a seasonal package. Even modest sponsorship of 50 to 100 pounds per match adds up over a season.

Replay and archive revenue

Match replays continue to sell for days and weeks after the event. Big matches can earn as much from replays as from live ticket sales. Build an archive and promote it to new supporters.

End-of-season highlight packages, compiled from your archive, can be sold or used as promotional content for the following season.

Building the programme

Assign a streaming coordinator. This does not need to be a technical expert; it needs to be someone organised who can schedule events, promote tickets, and recruit volunteers to operate cameras and scoreboards.

Invest gradually. Start with a phone and a free platform. Once revenue flows, upgrade to a dedicated camera, a hardware encoder, and a white-label streaming platform.
