A live scoreboard is one of the most-requested features for sports streams. Viewers want to see the score without needing commentary to tell them. Here is how to add one to your stream.
Scoreboard tools
Web-based scoreboard tools generate a URL that you add as a browser source in OBS. The scoreboard is updated via a phone app by a second person who watches the match and taps to update scores, time, and period.
Free options include Scoreboard OCR, Live Score, and various open-source tools. Paid options with more polished graphics are available from 5 to 20 pounds per month.
Setting up in OBS
In OBS, add a Browser Source and paste the scoreboard URL. Position it in the top-left or top-right corner of your scene. Set the width and height to match the scoreboard dimensions and make it small enough not to block the action.
Set the background of the browser source to transparent so the scoreboard overlays cleanly on the video without a visible box around it.
Operating the scoreboard
Assign one person to scoreboard duty for the entire match. They need a phone or tablet with the scoreboard control app open. Ideally, this person is not the camera operator, as both tasks require constant attention.
Update the score immediately after it changes. A delayed scoreboard is worse than no scoreboard because it confuses viewers about what they are seeing.
