How to Live Stream a Wedding Reception

How to stream the speeches, first dance, and key moments of a wedding reception for remote guests.

Many couples stream the ceremony but skip the reception. However, the speeches, first dance, and cake cutting are moments that remote guests love to share. Streaming the reception takes a bit more planning than the ceremony.

What to stream

You do not need to stream the entire reception. Focus on the key moments: speeches, first dance, cake cutting, and any special performances. Stream these as a continuous block rather than starting and stopping.

Let remote guests know the schedule in advance so they can tune in for the moments they care about most.

Audio challenges

Reception venues are noisy. Background music, conversation, and clinking glasses make it hard to capture clear speech audio. A wireless microphone on the best man or a feed from the DJ desk is essential for intelligible speeches.

For the first dance and music performances, take audio from the venue sound system rather than the room microphone.

Lighting

Receptions are often dimly lit with decorative lighting. Set your camera to manual exposure and increase the ISO to get a usable image. Accept that reception footage will be darker and moodier than ceremony footage; this is part of the atmosphere.

Share the celebration

PassCast lets you stream the ceremony and reception as part of the same event. One ticket, the whole day.
